Collections » Oranjehotel: Death Books (1942-1945)

Description

During the Second World War, more than 26,000 people were imprisoned in the Oranjehotel. This is the name for the part of the Scheveningen criminal prison where arrested resistance fighters were locked up. Stichting Oranjehotel has made four so-called Death Books: four photo albums with the portrait photos of 734 prisoners killed. To keep the books in good condition they were given to the National Archive in 2003 for safekeeping.
